Steve Hoyt is the founder of Reformed Wrestling and the head wrestling coach at South Kitsap High School (SKHS), a position he took over in the fall of 2025. 

Wrestling has been part of Steve’s life from an early age. He grew up in Port Orchard and Belfair, Washington, and his father founded the North Mason Stingers wrestling program. Steve wrestled for South Kitsap Pee Wees, (SKWC) North Mason Stingers, Northwest Washington Wrestling Club (NWWC), and Toro Wrestling Club before competing for North Mason High School at 171 lbs. He graduated in 2003 and continued wrestling at Highline Community College at 174 lbs in 2004. 

Steve began coaching in 2005 as a volunteer at Marcus Whitman Junior High. He served as an assistant coach at Hawkins Middle School from 2006–2008 and head coach from 2008–2010. In 2011, he joined the SKHS coaching staff, serving as an assistant through 2017. From 2018–2026, he coached with NWWC before taking over as head coach at SKHS in 2025. Throughout much of his coaching career, Steve has had the opportunity to coach alongside his father.

Steve is also a Christian, striving to honor Christ through being a husband, father of five, business owner, and entrepreneur. His three oldest sons currently wrestle, with his fourth son soon to follow, continuing a family involvement in the sport that now spans three generations.

Steve’s philosophy behind Reformed Wrestling is simple: give kids opportunities to do hard things. Wrestling teaches young people how to push through adversity, become comfortable being uncomfortable, and discover that they are capable of more than they think.
